Lionel Messi on the front cover of Fifa 13

Barcelona star Lionel Messi is setto be on the front cover of the new Fifa 13 game which is due for release in September this year. The Argentinian decided to switch from PES 2012 to Fifa 13,which has caused some speculation surrounding the move.

Messi has been on the front cover of the PES series since 2009 and opted to go with Fifa after he’s contract with Konami was brought to an end. There’s no doubt that Konami would have wanted to keep the super star as a representation of their games on the front cover.

People are now starting to ask whether Fifa have done this deliberately to get more of the South American and North American audiences to set their attention to the Fifa franchise. Also having one of the best, if not the best player in the world on the Fifa 13 cover does also help in more ways than one.

There is the fact that Cristiano Ronaldo has still decided to stay with the Pro Evolution Soccer series and stay loyal. You have to ask the question though, but for how long? Maybe Fifa will decide to lure Ronaldo to EA Sports aswell in a means to get him to pose for the front cover. Only time will tell, we shall have to wait and see when Fifa 14 comes out in well over a years time.

  2. From my understanding, Messi isn’t nearly as well respected in his native Argentina as he is in Europe, or more specifically Spain. But it will be interesting to see if having arguably the 2 best footballers in the world, representing opposing games will aid or hinder their respective titles. Putting my money on FIFA though.
